My
Introduction to Abraham
by Donna Lopez
In
the spring of 2005 I took a trip to Las Vegas for the Hay
House "I Can Do It!" Conference. I was excited
to go because some of my favorite inspirational speakers
were going to be there (Dr. Wayne Dyer, Caroline Myss, Christiane
Northrup, among others). It was a weekend full of workshops
and we had a choice as to who we'd like to see, depending
on which time they were speaking.
The
conference instructions recommended we sign up for our chosen
workshops early as some of the more popular speakers might
fill up quickly. For some reason though I felt the need
to hold off. In fact, I didn't even register for the weekend
at all until I was already in Las Vegas. This was highly
unusual for me because people who know me well know that
I am fully prepared when I go on a trip. But something just
kept telling me to wait.
So
when I arrived in Las Vegas, after I checked into my hotel,
I went over to the conference to register for my workshops.
Most of the speakers I had wanted to see were key-note speakers
for the overall conference and so there would be no problem
in getting to hear from them. In addition, there were various
other speakers sprinkled throughout the rest of the weekend.
However, as I began to sign up for one particular speaker
during one time slot, the person taking my registration
said that her workshop was already filled and that I needed
to choose another one.

My
Introduction to Abraham - continued...
I looked
through the rest of the speakers and their topic descriptions for
that time slot. I didn't know who any of them were, but I recognized
the name Abraham-Hicks from some inspirational cards that a friend
of mine had. I recalled having a discussion with my friend about
who Abraham-Hicks was because it wasn't clear to me who he/she/they
were. Even after our discussion I still wasn't sure. However I think
that was best for me... at that time! I think if I had had a clearer
understanding of who Esther/Abraham was then, I might have been
skeptical or even scared. After all, although I am in the business
of inspiration, I had only begun my own conscious search around
the year 2000. In my own journey I still had so much to learn (still
do... I know).
Anyway,
I think I chose the Abraham-Hicks workshop out of minor familiarity
only.
The
next day, on Saturday, the time came for me to go to this particular
workshop. It was packed! I rarely feel the need to sit near the
front of any workshop so I was fine when I got a seat way in the
back. As I sat there wondering what I was going to hear, Jerry Hicks
comes on stage to explain about Esther and Abraham. He explains
how Esther dialogs with a group of spiritual teachers who call themselves
Abraham. I was definitely intrigued, but at the same time, a bit
nervous about what was going to happen. Then Esther, this very pleasant
and gentle woman comes on stage to tell us that she is going to
channel Abraham, who will be speaking to us directly. Fortunately
I didn't know anyone there, because I could only imagine the look
on my face!
A
couple of deep breaths and Esther is quickly speaking as Abraham.
They begin by telling us that anything and everything we want is
always given to us. So of course, I quickly think to myself... Then
why don't I have everything I want? They go on to say that the reason
we are not receiving everything we want is because of the Law of
Attraction. We must be in vibrational harmony to receive that for
which we ask. (Now, I definitely cannot explain exactly the way
they do, which is why I give you the link to their website). However,
as I immediately move to the front edge of my chair to try and get
what they were saying, I began to understand one important thing
that helped me grasp the concept. Esther kept motioning as though
she was beating a drum. That was to represent what we do when we
want something, but are not receiving it. They kept saying (as she's
beating the drum)... You say... I want this, I want that, but then
you keep beating the drum of... I don't have this, I don't have
that. The Law of Attraction reacts only to where we are beating
our drum. The more we feel, think and speak about what we don't
have or don't like, we are beating that drum and just attracting
more of what we don't have or don't like. If we feel, think and
speak about what we DO want, then we are beating that drum and we
have a much easier time attracting that to us.
This
was such a huge realization for me that I have never thought about
life the same since. I was truly amazed at all I got to hear that
day. In fact, I was so impressed that during a break I sat there
and actually began to doubt myself and my own career choices. I
started thinking to myself how I would never be able to teach such
important things as this. I began questioning myself and thought
how I couldn't possibly compare as a coach or a teacher when there
are such intelligent speakers like Abraham-Hicks out there. Well,
as crazy as this sounds, the instant after I questioned myself,
a woman in front of me said to her friend, "This was good,
but I cannot imagine everyone being able to get this right away."
Then immediately after she said that, a man in front of her stood
up and said to his friend, "Much of this is going over my head."
These comments were specifically for me! I knew it, because it has
always been my desire to teach people who are at the beginning stages
of their self-discovering journey. I love working with those people
the most because I think I have a gift for explaining things in
a simple way. In addition, as I am still somewhat close to the time
I began my own quest for answers, I very much get how confusing
it can be for someone who is starting to understand more about their
journey. And I think this often comforts my clients.
So
this was my introduction to Abraham and it was sure one big life
changing experience for me. I was so excited on that first day that
I blew off one of my Sunday workshops to sneak in to see Abraham-Hicks
again! (That time I sat in the front row.) Since that trip I have
read all their books, have even seen them again when they came to
the Bay Area, and I continue to practice what they teach with definite
results in my own life.
I
have learned so much more since then and as I continue to learn
I will pass it on, as I believe all teachers are meant to do. I
hope you are following where your own guidance is leading you, because
you just never know when you are supposed to hear or see something
you never would have planned or even dreamed.
p.s.
Notice the syncronicity of the first Abraham-Hicks book cover, "Ask
and It Is Given", my own website design as well as the picture
I took from the airplane during that very month I took the trip
(see my story from May
2005 - Above the clouds.)
